Dr. Vasilios Makris is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, Doctor of Medicine at the Free University Berlin ( Germany ) and a graduate of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

After completing his studies at the University of Thessaloniki, he began his residency in a paid position at the Orthopaedic Traumatology Clinic of the Teach Hospital Neukölln of the Free University Berlin, where he received the title of Specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology after passing the examinations in Berlin.

After a legal procedure he was awarded a doctorate by the Free University Berlin. He continued his organic paid position as an attending physician (Oberartzt) at the Orthopaedic - Traumatology Clinic of the Teach Hospital Neukölln Berlin.  

After the necessary theoretical training in the field of sports medicine, his participation as a physician in various sports clubs in Berlin and successful examinations, as required by German law, he was awarded the title Diplom of Sportmedizin by the German Society for Sports Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soportmedizin). From 2000 to 2006 he was a physician for the Volleyball team of Hercules Thessaloniki.  

He then trained as a salaried attending physician at the Trauma Clinic of the Teach Hospital am Urban Krankenhaus Berlin of the Free University Berlin. He completed further training at the Orthopaedic - Traumatology Clinic of the Auguste Viktoria Hospital Berlin, where he worked in addition to general Orthopaedics and Traumatology with the "Navigation Technique T.K.A." and at the General Hospital Nykoeping and Arthro Clinic in Stockholm. His postgraduate training in Sweden was mainly in the field of arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle joint. In addition, he received further training at the University Traumatology Orthopaedic Clinic Klinikum Westend Berlin .

During his twenty years of training as a resident and his post-graduate training as a specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Germany, in addition to general orthopaedics and traumatology, he was involved in the field of reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee joint (total hip and knee arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty due to aseptic or septic loosening, complex arthroplasties on the ground of developmental dysplasia, etc.).

At the same time, he has special training and expertise in arthroscopic surgery (sports injuries, degenerative diseases) of the knee, shoulder and ankle joint and in the surgery of sports injuries.  


He returned to Greece in 2000 and after a crisis of SKEOPNI, he was appointed as an attending surgeon B and then as an attending surgeon A, at the 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki. In 2003, he was appointed to the 3rd University Orthopaedic Clinic of the Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki, where he participated in numerous surgical procedures covering the entire spectrum of Orthopaedic and Traumatological surgery, with particular interest in total hip and knee arthroplasty and knee and shoulder arthroscopy. He was also involved in the training program and care at both undergraduate level (medical school students) and postgraduate level and surgical training of residents in Orthopaedics.  


On 06.10.2011 he was elected Director of Orthopaedics at the 3rd University Orthopaedic Clinic of the Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki, a position he held until 2023. During his scientific career, he has participated in a large number of international and Greek conferences and seminars by chairing and presenting papers and is constantly updated on all developments and the latest surgical techniques that take place internationally in the field of Orthopaedic and Traumatological science. The number of papers in Greek conferences is 55, in international conferences 15, the number of publications in Greek journals is 2 and the number of publications in foreign language journals is 12.  


Dr. Vasilios Makris has specialization and long experience in total hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries, applying Minimal In vasive Surgery (MIS) and arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle joint.
