Mr. Margaritopoulos works as an academic (Reader) in Interstitial Lung Diseases at the C. Papanikolaou', as well as at the Aristotle University. He is an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College Medical School, London, UK. He has also worked as a Consultant at the largest reference centre for Intermediate Diseases in Europe (Royal Brompton Hospital, London, UK), as well as at the Interstitial Lung Diseases Unit at Manchester University Hospital. For 3 years he worked as Director of the Interstitial Lung Diseases Unit at London North West University Hospital.


At the Interstitial Lung Diseases Clinic of the Clinic "Agios Loukas" the diagnosis and monitoring of the main Interstitial Lung Diseases, such as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis in the context of rheumatological diseases (such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Scleroderma), pneumonitis from hypersensitivity and Sarcoidosis is carried out. Patients with smoking-associated Interstitial Lung Disease and pulmonary fibrosis as a complication after COVID-19 disease are also followed.


For the best service of patients, the Clinic performs all the necessary tests for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases, such as blood tests including immunological testing, high-resolution CT scans, spirometry/measurement of diffusion capacity, cardiac ultrasound and bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage.


Early diagnosis of patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases and especially with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is of primary importance for the timely initiation of medication. For this reason, we were led to start this specialized clinic for the more correct and faster treatment of patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases.
