Latest developments in the field of Hepatology

The evolution of Hepatology in modern medical practice is remarkable, giving a tangible perspective to patients with "unsolved" until before some chronic health problems.

Therapeutic developments

Hepatitis C

Thanks to the innovative pharmacological treatment of viral hepatitis and, specifically, hepatitis C, it is possible to eradicate the virus in 96% of cases with only two-month pharmacotherapy, without any particular side effects.

Hepatitis B

Furthermore, chronic hepatitis B, which is quite common in Greece, is treated with great adequacy nowadays, since with proper staging of the disease, both pharmacological treatment and proper monitoring of patients are safe to avoid complications and unwanted progression of the disease.

Diagnostic developments

Hepatic fibrosis

Apart from the therapeutic developments, the hepatological diagnostics is making remarkable progress. Through non-invasive diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis, liver biopsy is only necessary in some cases, with overall great clinical benefit for the patient.

Liver cirrhosis

In addition, both the diagnosis and the therapeutic handling of liver cirrhosis in collaboration with interventional radiology have a huge evolution and have led to a clear improvement in the life expectancy and quality of life of patients.
