Cleft is a common malformation that people unfortunately often refer to as a cleft lip or cleft palate. Clefts are a category of cases of incomplete convergence of head tissues, about the 5th to 9th week of pregnancy.
The cleft lip and cleft palate are the incomplete convergence of the lip, jaw (or alveolar apophysis) and palate (soft and hard). The cleft can occur individually in one of the anatomical areas or in combination of all the above. It can also be unilateral or bilateral.
In our country it occurs in a ratio of 1:600-700 births. The development of medical technology makes it possible to diagnose the existence of clefts from the embryonic stage with ultrasound examination.

Hereditary features may be hidden and not appear in every generation. For the appearance of a cleft, hereditary factors must coincide with other factors. This is still difficult to fully understand.
