The Department of Clinical Cardiology treats patients with heart diseases of all kinds (heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, etc.).
The Department of Interventional Cardiology treats patients mainly with coronary artery disease. Patients undergo coronary angiography examination and, in case of significant coronary stenosis, either angioplasty ("balloon") or surgery is performed; therefore, patients are transferred to the Cardiac Surgery Department.
Patients requiring surgical treatment of heart disease are referred to the Cardiac Surgery Department. To date, more than 20,000 patients have undergone surgery at the Cardiac Surgery Department and the entire spectrum of heart disease has been treated.
The Hospital's Heart Departments are equipped with modern equipment and manned with experienced medical and nursing staff. The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit is equipped with the most excellent support and monitoring equipment for patients and operates in accordance with all modern postoperative medical protocols.
A special medical team is available 24 hours a day, so that patients who have had acute myocardial infarction can undergo (before necrosis occurs in the heart) coronary angiography examination and angioplasty, provided that they arrive immediately at the Hospital.
Interventional cardiologists are also engaged in the electrophysiology study of the heart, so that they can intervene, if necessary, by performing the ablation method, in order to restore the relevant lesions.
The entire medical, nursing and technical staff of the Heart Centre consists of people of high scientific knowledge, vast experience and many years of studies in major centres abroad.
Moreover, the department's state-of-the-art logistics equipment is constantly renewed according to the latest developments and requirements of science.
All the people who constitute the scientific and technical potential of the Clinic are possessed by the vision to offer with love to the suffering person what modern science requires.
The Centre is increasingly producing academic work, to the point that it has already become a global reference centre for many medical cases. Many foreign doctors of various medical specialties visit our Centre in order to exchange views and be trained in various techniques that we are developing.

Major innovations of the Heart Centre are:

The Centre carries out extensive research with presentations, publications and announcements at major Greek and European conferences. On a regular basis, there is live surgery broadcast of complex surgeries (angioplasty, valve replacements) in major conferences in Greece and abroad.
Furthermore, the Centre trains cardiologists, not only from Greece, but also from many countries abroad, as it is a reference training centre in techniques such as Rotablation, complete blockages and TAVI, as well as cardiac surgeons from all over Europe, who are trained at the Cardiac Surgery Institute, in endoscopic cardiac surgery.
