The Breast Clinic uses state-of-the-art systems that are regulated and evaluated by experienced scientists of various fields and specialties. Also, the Clinic offers a complete diagnostic package in a single visit, which includes the following:
• Clinical examination
• Imaging examination (digital mammography, breast ultrasound)
• Diagnosis (FNA, core biopsy)
• Written medical report
Early diagnosis and proper treatment of breast problems presupposes the existence of a well-organised and specialised unit, consisting of doctors of various specialties. The Breast Clinic of St. Luke's Hospital meets all the requirements and consists of specialised doctors and experienced staff of all the specialties involved.
With the ability to perform all imaging and invasive needs, the Radiology Department is the basis of our medical team.
Imaging methods
The Radiology Department has a modern digital mammography machine, with the possibility of 3-Dimensional Digital Mammography (Tomosynthesis). According to the specialists of the Clinic,
"With 3-Dimensional Tomosynthesis, breast imaging is performed with greater accuracy, higher sensitivity and lower radiation."
Also, there is the possibility of a Breast MRI or CT Scan, in order to have a full breast examination. Finally, the two new ultrasound machines serve daily a large number of women, who come either for preventive reasons or for the examination of a mass.
There is also the possibility of performing interventional procedures, such as:
• Fine Needle Aspiration,
• Biopsy with "gun" (Core Biopsy)
• Preoperative marking of a non-palpable lump with kopans wire
• Marker placement in preoperative chemotherapy
• Lymph node biopsy
Breast Surgeons
Usually, we call breast surgeons "mastologists". In reality, however, they are surgeons who deal exclusively and specifically with the breast. These specialists can monitor a woman as part of their regular, annual check-up, but also in case there is a finding, in order to intervene surgically.
Modern surgical treatment
With the help of Breast Surgeons, all modern and globally patented methods of treatment of benign and malignant lesions are applied, such as the Sentinel Lymph Node Detection Technique Intraoperatively with Fluorescent Substance, a new technique internationally, which is also applied in our Hospital.
Use of oncoplastic techniques
The use of Oncoplastic Surgery Techniques, with or without the participation of a plastic surgeon, is applied, so that the right oncology result is combined with a satisfactory aesthetic result, contributing to better psychology of the patient, and therefore to faster and better recovery.
Pathology Oncology Department
Excellent in approach and experienced pathologists-oncologists, they help patients who are about to undergo chemotherapy, providing the appropriate medication. The staff of the Department, with its particular sensitivity and experience, ensures that the short stay of the patients in the department is as pleasant and calm as possible.
Radiotherapeutic Department - Department of Nuclear Medicine
In view of the creation of a separate building for the Radiotherapeutic Department and the Department of Nuclear Medicine, there is excellent cooperation with external partners.
Histopathology Department
Without our experienced pathologists, it would be very difficult for others doctors to work. The Pathology Department participates actively and directly in the treatment of patients, usually determining the continuity of their treatment and offering:
• Quick response and performance of results
• Possibility of rapid biopsy
• Ability to carry out all the necessary examinations
